CRT monitors and televisions are classified as hazardous waste under UK regulations because of their leaded glass and phosphor coatings. Most consumer recyclers refuse them. We don't — we're licensed for it, and we process them through the correct UK hazardous-waste route.
A typical 19" CRT monitor contains 2–4kg of lead in the funnel glass plus barium and strontium in the screen glass. Crack one open in the wrong way and you've got a hazardous-waste incident on your hands.
Binning CRTs in regular waste is a breach of the Hazardous Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2005. Even storing them improperly can attract Environment Agency scrutiny.

A typical 24" LCD monitor weighs around 4–5kg. Roughly 85% of that returns to the supply chain as recovered material — keeping rare metals in circulation and out of UK landfill.

Business IT DisposalOld monitors look like simple kit, but they sit at the awkward intersection of bulky waste, hazardous components and electronic recycling regulations. Here's how Tech Labz makes the whole thing painless.
Skipping monitors in general waste isn't just bad for the planet — it's a breach of the Hazardous Waste Regulations 2005 and Environmental Protection Act 1990. Even modern LCDs can contain mercury backlights (older models) and bromine-based flame retardants that aren't legal landfill.
Old tube monitors are the worst offender — leaded glass, phosphor coatings and stored capacitor charge. We're licensed to handle them and they're included in standard collection pricing.
Each monitor we process gives back roughly 85% recovered material — aluminium, steel, plastics, glass, copper and trace precious metals — all routed back into UK manufacturing through licensed reprocessors.
Where monitors still work, they're refurbished via our remarketing channels and resold — extending device life, generating residual value for your finance team, and reducing demand for new manufacturing.
Old monitors are awkward. They're heavy, fragile, often forgotten in storerooms, and quietly illegal to put in general waste. Most facilities managers eventually look for a specialist recycler — and the choice usually comes down to: who'll take all of them, who'll do it free, and who'll give me the paperwork I need.
Tech Labz checks all three. We operate from a secure facility in Bolton and serve businesses across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland — from a 5-monitor cupboard clearance in Manchester to a 500-screen refresh across an NHS trust.
55"+ signage, video walls and command-room displays often need two-person lift and bespoke transport. We have the kit and the trained crews — included in the free collection service.
SMART boards, Promethean, kiosk units and meeting-room signage often retain network credentials, WiFi configs and tenant data in firmware. We securely reset all of these before processing — no hidden data leakage in your disposal route.
If your storeroom has a mix of dusty CRTs, broken LCDs and forgotten signage from three office moves ago — we'll quote, collect and certify everything in one visit.
Most monitor refreshes happen alongside computer refreshes. Combining with our computer recycling, laptop recycling or secure data destruction services means a single supplier, single project manager, single set of paperwork — and meaningful operational savings against juggling multiple vendors.
